Terms of Service

The short version

Burger Bros is a club of friends who eat burgers and grade them. Rate honestly, from a real visit. Every grade on this site is somebody's opinion of a burger, not a fact about a restaurant, and it has nothing to do with food safety. You keep ownership of your photos and reviews; posting them lets us show them on the site. Use the site at your own risk. Break the pledge and the badge goes.

The Inspector's Pledge

A badge is a promise. Every inspector agrees to all of this before one is issued:

  • Rate honestly. Your grade is what you actually thought of the burger. Not what your friends said, not what the place deserves for other reasons.
  • Eat it first.Only file an inspection for a burger you personally bought and ate at that spot. No inspections from photos, hearsay or memory of a place you've never been.
  • No made-up visits.Fabricating an inspection — a spot you didn't go to, a burger you didn't order — is the one thing that ends a badge on the spot.
  • No rating your own house. If you own, work at, are related to the owner of, or are being paid or fed for free by a spot, you don't get to grade it. Tell us and we'll note it.
  • No foul play. No arranging with anyone to push a score up or down. No revenge grades, no second badge to pad an average, no trading favourable inspections.
  • Your own photos only.Every photo you upload — burger evidence or a menu page — is one you took yourself, at that spot, on a real visit. Never someone else's photo, never the restaurant's marketing shot, never something pulled off the internet. Inspections are expected to carry a photo; filing without one takes an explicit declaration and the report is stamped accordingly.
  • Keep it clean. All ages read these files. Write like it.

Badges can be suspended or revoked for breaking the pledge, and the inspections that came with it can be removed. The Commissioner makes that call. It's a club, not a court — but nobody gets thrown out over an unpopular opinion honestly held.

A grade is an opinion, not a fact

Every score here is one inspector's personal opinion about one burger they ate on one day. The letter grade on a spot is the average of everyone who has inspected it, so it moves as more inspectors visit — a spot rated once can look very different after five.

Nothing on this site is a statement of fact about a business, and none of it says anything about food safety, cleanliness, sanitation, hygiene or how a kitchen is run. We grade taste. That's all it is.

Peer review: helpful and not helpful

Inspectors police their own paperwork. Any badged inspector can mark somebody else's report helpful or not helpful. If enough of the task force marks a report not helpful — a share of the active roster, and the not-helpfuls have to outnumber the helpfuls — the report is struck: shown as VOIDED on the case file and no longer counted toward the spot's grade. Nothing is deleted; a struck report stays on the record, marked as struck.

If your report is struck and you think the task force got it wrong, appeal to the Commissioner at info@burgerbros.us. The Commissioner can restore a struck report, or strike one the votes missed, and that call is final — subject to the same rule as everything else here: nobody loses a report over an unpopular opinion honestly held.

We are not a health department

Burger Bros is an independent burger-review club run by its members. We are not connected to, endorsed by, or acting for any government agency, health authority or inspection body. “Bureau”, “inspector”, “certification authority” and the grade placards are a running joke about the seriousness of the burger, not a claim of official standing.

Real sanitation grades for restaurants are issued by your local city or county health department, and ours have nothing to do with them. If you want to know whether a kitchen is clean, look up the real inspection. Ours only tells you whether we liked the burger.

Use at your own risk

The site is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. We don't promise the information is accurate, current or complete — hours change, kitchens change, spots close, and a grade can be months old.

Deciding where to eat is on you. To the fullest extent the law allows, Burger Bros, its members and whoever hosts or operates it are not liable for anything arising from your use of the site or from a visit to any spot listed on it, including illness, allergic reaction, a bad meal or a wasted trip. Check allergens with the restaurant yourself; we don't track them.

Your photos and your words

You own what you post. Your photos stay yours, your reviews stay yours, and deleting your account takes them down.

Uploading a photo is your declaration that you took it yourself. Posting someone else's photo — another person's shot, a restaurant's picture, anything you didn't take — breaks the pledge and is grounds for removing the photo and the badge behind it.

By posting, you give Burger Bros a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to store, display, reproduce and distribute that content on the site and in promoting the site — social posts, a printed round-up, whatever the club does next. Transferable and sublicensable matter for a dull reason: without them the site couldn't be handed to someone else or run through another service without hunting down every inspector for permission.

You confirm you took the photos (or have the right to post them) and that your reviews are your own words. We can decline or remove anything that doesn't belong here.

Restaurant owners

If your spot is listed here, we're fans — that's why it's on the map. Details go stale, though, so corrections are genuinely welcome: wrong address, wrong hours, changed name, new owner, or a spot that has closed.

Email info@burgerbros.us and we'll fix the record. We'll also take down a review that breaks the pledge — one from someone who was never there, or a grade filed to settle a score. We won't remove an honest opinion just because it's a low one, but if you've changed the burger, say so and we'll send an inspector back.

What you can't do here

  • Break the Inspector's Pledge.
  • Post anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, obscene or aimed at a person rather than a burger.
  • Post someone else's photos or writing as your own.
  • Hold more than one badge, or share yours with anyone.
  • Scrape, bulk-download or resell the site's content, or hammer it with automated traffic.
  • Try to break in, get around the login, or poke at the site's security.

Membership is by invitation and stays at the Bureau's discretion. We can suspend or revoke a badge, remove content, or close the club to anyone, for these reasons or for anything else that makes the club worse. You can leave whenever you like — email us and the account goes.

Copyright and takedowns

If something here infringes your copyright, email info@burgerbros.us with what the work is, where it appears on the site (a link), how to reach you, and a statement that you believe the use isn't authorised and that your notice is accurate. We'll remove or disable the material we find infringing, and we cut off inspectors who make a habit of it. Tell us if you think we took something down by mistake and we'll put it back if you're right.

Formal DMCA notices go to our designated agent, registered with the US Copyright Office under BuildMyMap LLC (this application's parent company): Copyright Agent, reachable at the same address, info@burgerbros.us.

Age

You must be 13 or older to hold a badge. Anyone can read the site. If we learn a badge belongs to someone under 13, it gets removed.

The dull but necessary bit

  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts of New Hanover County, North Carolina.
  • Privacy. What we collect and why is in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
  • Changes. If these terms change, the date at the top changes with it and members are told directly. Carrying on using the site means the new version applies.
  • If a piece fails. If any part of this turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.

Not legal advice

This page is written to be read, not to impress a court. It's the club's plain-English explanation of how things work here, and it isn't legal advice — not to inspectors, and not to restaurant owners. If something on this page matters to you in a legal way, talk to a lawyer.
